SugarShuttle: Sugarloaf ↔ Hood Mtn, Los Alamos Rd
Catch a ride on the SugarShuttle to thru-hike from Sugarloaf to Hood Mt. Los Alamos lot, or vice versa!
How it works
Every hour, our Shuttle will leave from either Sugarloaf Ridge State Park's Visitor Center (making a brief stop at the Goodspeed parking lot) or Hood Mountain Regional Park’s Los Alamos Rd parking lot. Make a reservation to ride to the other end of the trail and begin your hike, or hike and ride back. We recommend riding first and hiking back to your car afterwards– no worries about how long you take to finish your adventure. The hike should take 4-5hours depending on your pace; the distance is about 7.5 miles one way with approximately 2,000ft of elevation gain. Bring at least 64oz of water and sun protection (and well as snacks), as the majority of the trail is exposed.
If you are riding from Sugarloaf, the Goodspeed lot fills up quickly. If full, please park at Sugarloaf's main parking lot and pick up the shuttle at the Visitor Center. Remember, the Hood Mountain pick-up is at the end of Los Alamos Road: 3000 Los Alamos Rd, Santa Rosa, CA, 94509. Los Alamos Rd is a windy, narrow, sometimes one-lane, 5-mile road without cell reception—allow time to get to the lot (NOT the Pythian Rd lot). Please note there are currently no restrooms or water at this trailhead.
